    These seven training rules

    Are from speech, not from body or mind;

    Vācācittena jāyanti,

    Or they are produced from speech and mind,

    na tu kāyena jāyare;

    Not from body;

  16. pli-tv-pvr3:54.5

    Dvisamuṭṭhānikā sabbe,

    All have two originations,

    padasodhammasadisā.

    As in memorizing the Teaching.

    And the eight to be acknowledged.

    These fifteen training rules

    The fourfold origination;

    Paññattā buddhañāṇena,

    Laid down through the Buddha’s knowledge,

    addhānena sahā samā.

    The same as with the rule on traveling.

    Addhānasamuṭṭhānaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.

    Originations like the offense for traveling are finished.

    2.9. Theyyasatthasamuṭṭhāna

    9. Originations like the offense on a group of traveling thieves

    Theyyasatthaṁ upassuti,

    A group of traveling thieves, eavesdropping,

    sūpaviññāpanena ca;

    And with asking for bean curry;

  38. pli-tv-pvr3:60.3

    Rattichannañca okāsaṁ,

    Night, and concealed, out in the open,

  39. pli-tv-pvr3:60.4

    ete byūhena sattamā.

    With a cul-de-sac: these seven

  40. pli-tv-pvr3:61.1

    Kāyacittena jāyanti,

    Are produced from body and mind,

  41. pli-tv-pvr3:61.2

    na te jāyanti vācato;

    Not from speech;

  42. pli-tv-pvr3:61.3

    Tīhi dvārehi jāyanti,

    Or they are produced from the three doors.

  43. pli-tv-pvr3:61.4

    dvisamuṭṭhānikā ime;

    They have two originations;

    Theyyasatthasamuṭṭhānā,

    As the origination of a group of traveling thieves,

  45. pli-tv-pvr3:61.6

    desitādiccabandhunā.

    Taught by the Kinsman of the Sun.

    Theyyasatthasamuṭṭhānaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.

    Evameva daṇḍapāṇissa,

    Nor to someone holding a staff,

  51. pli-tv-pvr3:63.4

    satthaāvudhapāṇinaṁ.

    Or to someone holding a knife, or a weapon.

  52. pli-tv-pvr3:64.1

    Pādukupāhanā yānaṁ,

    Shoes, sandals, vehicle,

  53. pli-tv-pvr3:64.2

    seyyapallatthikāya ca;

    Lying down, and clasping their knees;

    Veṭhitoguṇṭhito ceva,

    Headdress, and covered head:

  55. pli-tv-pvr3:64.4

    ekādasamanūnakā.

    Eleven rules, not less.

    Produced from speech and mind,

    Not from body;

    Sabbe ekasamuṭṭhānā,

    Dhammadesanāsamuṭṭhānaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.

    2.11. Bhūtārocanasamuṭṭhāna

    Bhūtaṁ kāyena jāyati,

    Truthfully: produced from the body,

    na vācā na ca cittato;

    Not from speech or mind;

  64. pli-tv-pvr3:67.3

    Vācato ca samuṭṭhāti,

    Or it originates from speech,

  65. pli-tv-pvr3:67.4

    na kāyā na ca cittato.

    Not from body or mind;

  66. pli-tv-pvr3:68.1

    Kāyavācāya jāyati,

    Or it is produced from body and speech,

  67. pli-tv-pvr3:68.2

    na tu jāyati cittato;

    Not from mind;

    Bhūtārocanakā nāma,

    So informing of what is true

    tīhi ṭhānehi jāyati.

    na taṁ jāyati kāyato;

    Not from body;

    Jāyati tīhi dvārehi,

    Or produced from the three doors.

  75. pli-tv-pvr3:70.4

    corivuṭṭhāpanaṁ idaṁ;

    This offense for admitting a female criminal

  76. pli-tv-pvr3:70.5

    Akataṁ dvisamuṭṭhānaṁ,

    Has two originations,

  77. pli-tv-pvr3:70.6

    dhammarājena bhāsitaṁ.

    As spoken by the King of the Teaching.

    Corivuṭṭhāpanasamuṭṭhānaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.

    Originations like the offense for the admission of a female criminal are finished.

    2.13. Ananuññātasamuṭṭhāna

    13. Originations like the offense for lack of permission

    Ananuññātaṁ vācāya,

    Lack of permission: from speech,

    na kāyā na ca cittato;

    Not from body or mind;

  82. pli-tv-pvr3:72.3

    Jāyati kāyavācāya,

    Or produced from body and speech,

  83. pli-tv-pvr3:72.4

    na taṁ jāyati cittato.

    Not from mind;

  84. pli-tv-pvr3:73.1

    Jāyati vācācittena,

    Or produced from speech and mind,

  85. pli-tv-pvr3:73.2

    na taṁ jāyati kāyato;

    Not from body;

  86. pli-tv-pvr3:73.3

    Jāyati tīhi dvārehi,

    Or produced from the three doors.

  87. pli-tv-pvr3:73.4

    akataṁ catuṭhānikaṁ.

    One that has four bases is not done.

  88. pli-tv-pvr3:74.1

    Ananuññātasamuṭṭhānaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.

    Originations like the offense for lack of permission are finished.

  89. pli-tv-pvr3:75.1

    Samuṭṭhānañhi saṅkhepaṁ,

    For the contraction on originations

  90. pli-tv-pvr3:75.2

    dasa tīṇi sudesitaṁ;

    Has thirteen classes that have been well taught;

  91. pli-tv-pvr3:75.3

    Asammohakaraṁ ṭhānaṁ,

    A cause for non-delusion,

  92. pli-tv-pvr3:75.4

    nettidhammānulomikaṁ;

    In accordance with the Teaching that guides;

  93. pli-tv-pvr3:75.5

    Dhārayanto imaṁ viññū,

    The wise person remembering this,

  94. pli-tv-pvr3:75.6

    samuṭṭhāne na muyhatīti.

    Is not confused about origination.”

  95. pli-tv-pvr3:76.1

    Samuṭṭhānasīsasaṅkhepo niṭṭhito.

    The thirteen groups of originations of offenses is finished.
