maškadu[m!] mašk]adum! – not maškadum (but) šuḫûm (is its true name).

2 In the street is its lair; in between the sheep is its location.

3 It bites a wolf-bite; it attacks an Elamite-dog's attack.

4 It enters (with) the entering of the herds, it goes out (with) the going out of the herds.

5 Go out maškadum before the flint razors of Gula will reach you!

6 Incantation formula.

Commentary

1: For the exact specification of the disease name, in the very same formula see: Böck 2007, 290: 153–153a; 293: 167–168. See also Reiner 1995, 59 n. 248.

5: la-a-ma ik-šu-du-ka ṣú-ur-ru na-ag-la-bu: the same expression is found in AMT 12, 1: 47. This magical warning is found in the Lamaštu incantation BIN 2, 72: 10–12. For ṣurru naglabū cf. Wasserman 2003: 11 and also Erra (Cagni 1969) IV: 57. Finally, according to the copy, there is hardly enough room for [ša d]Gu-la in the break at the end of the line.
