Commentary

1–4: Note the correspondence between the enumeration of the colored dogs in this incantation and Enmerkar and the Lord of Aratta 457–459 (ur na-an-gi₆-ge ur na-an-babbar-re ur na-an-si₄-e ur na-an-dara₄-e ur na-an-sig₇-sig₇-ge ur na-an-gùn-gùn-gú). See also the semi-fixed list of colors in lexical texts, e.g. Hh XIV (MSL 8/2, 13–14): 89-93 (cf. also MSL 8/1, 16: 98–102).

1'–3': If reading is correct, these fragmentary lines may contain a rare allusion in magical literature to the mythical Flood.
