iii 3'–5' In Simānu, 3^rd day: the kurgarrû goes to E-tur-kalamma and stands at the east gate. He recites as follows:

iii 5'–24' "O Šamaš, who ensures renewal for the great gods, who illuminates the corners of the world, shepherd of humanfolk, asleep in the meadow, who confronts the aggressor, who conquers the evil and destroys the aggressor! Come straight to me from the distant heavens: here am I, standing before(!) you. You, Šamaš, are the king of the lofty heavens. I am one who averts (evil) portents, who tells of your valor. An aggressor attacked us, plundered our flocks. A wicked enemy came quickly against us, the evil one laid waste our countryside. The foe captured us. His bow was nocked to let the arrows fly. But we ourselves, we did not know how to grasp a quiver. Elam overwhelmed our sacred localities. We did not know the great craft of war, and the Subarian [was as] hostile to him as a ewe-lamb. Babylon, its loins have been stripped. O mighty [hero], king of the gods, Šamaš, judge of heaven and underworld, [. . . lord of] ghosts, King Šamaš, who pronounces favor, [defeat the evil] one, desecrate [his land . . .]" [This is the rituaI for the morning.]

iv 4'–7' [In Simānu], 9^th day: the kurgarrû goes to E-me-urur, the tempIe of Nanāya [in] TE.E^ki(!), and stands with his face turned towards the east. He does not enter the cult-room. He hurls a ḫašḫūru-fruit and a pomegranate at the outside of the cult-room.

iv 8' This is the ritual for the morning.

iv 9' The 9th day: the female members of the temple staff of E-tur-kalamma assemble and make merry in the lobby of E-tur-kalamma. They hurl ḫašḫūru-fruits at all the cult-rooms. They say "Come on now! Come on now!" <This is the ritual for the afternoon.>

iv 13'–17' In Simānu, the 15^th day. The assinnu sets down a brick in the House of Lament. He sprinkles juniper and maṣḫatu-flour on top. He lights a bonfire (or: bonfires). He casts meat (preserved in) kasû-spice, dried meat, fish, barleycorn, a clod, and dried reed on to the bonfire. He pours a libation of fine ale. He casts seven dried fIour-loaves on to the bonfire. He recites "When I saw you in the Equlû."
