1. 7.1

   Thus the Lord God showed me; and, behold, he was forming locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.

2. 7.2

   And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee: how shall Ya῾aqov stand? for he is small.

3. 7.3

   The Lord relented concerning this: It shall not be, said the Lord.

4. 7.4

   Thus did the Lord God show me: and, behold, the Lord God called to judgment by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and was eating up the land.

5. 7.5

   Then I said, O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee: how shall Ya῾aqov stand? for he is small.

6. 7.6

   The Lord relented concerning this: This also shall not be, said the Lord God.

7. 7.7

   Thus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

8. 7.8

   And the Lord said to me, ῾Amos, what dost thou see? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Yisra᾽el: I will not again pardon him any more:

9. 7.9

   and the high places of Yisĥaq shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Yisra᾽el shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Yorov῾am with the sword.

10. 7.10

    Then Amażya the priest of Bet-el sent to Yorov῾am king of Yisra᾽el, saying, ῾Amos has conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Yisra᾽el: the land is not able to bear all his words.

11. 7.11

    For thus ῾Amos says, Yorov῾am shall die by the sword, and Yisra᾽el shall surely be led away into exile out of their own land.

12. 7.12

    And Amażya said to ῾Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Yehuda, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

13. 7.13

    but do not prophesy again any more at Bet-el: for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house.

14. 7.14

    Then ῾Amos answered and said to Amażya, I am no prophet, neither am I a prophet’s son; but I was a herdman, and a dresser of sycamore trees:

15. 7.15

    and the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Yisra᾽el.

16. 7.16

    Now therefore hear the word of the Lord: Thou sayst, Do not prophesy against Yisra᾽el, and do not preach against the house of Yisĥaq.

17. 7.17

    Therefore thus says the Lord; Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in an unclean land: and Yisra᾽el shall surely go into Exile out of his land.

18. 8.1

    Thus the Lord God showed me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

19. 8.2

    And he said, ῾Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then the Lord said to me, The end is come upon my people of Yisra᾽el; I will not again pardon him any more.

20. 8.3

    And the songs of the temple shall become wailings on that day, says the Lord God: many will be the dead bodies; in every place they shall be cast forth; O hush.

21. 8.4

    Hear this, O you that swallow up the needy, so as to destroy the poor of the land,

22. 8.5

    saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the efa small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances of deceit?

23. 8.6

    that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; and sell the refuse of the wheat?

24. 8.7

    The Lord has sworn by the pride of Ya῾aqov, saying, Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.

25. 8.8

    Shall not the land tremble for this, and everyone mourn that dwells in it? and it shall all rise up like the River; and it shall overflow and sink down like the River of Miżrayim.

26. 8.9

    And it shall come to pass on that day, says the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

27. 8.10

    and I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and its end like a bitter day.

28. 8.11

    Behold, days are coming, says the Lord God, when I will send a famine in the land, not a famine for bread, nor a thirst for water, but for hearing the words of the Lord:

29. 8.12

    and they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

30. 8.13

    In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

31. 8.14

    They that swear by the sin of Shomeron, and say, As thy god, O Dan, lives; and As the road to Be᾽er-sheva lives; they shall fall, and never rise up again.

32. 9.1

    I saw the Lord standing besides the altar: and he said, Smite the capitals, that the thresholds may shake: and break them in pieces over the head of all of them; and I will slay the remnant of them with the sword: not a single one of them shall flee away, and not a single one of them shall escape.

33. 9.2

    Though they dig into She᾽ol, from there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, from there will I bring them down:

34. 9.3

    and though they hide themselves in the top of the Karmel, I will search and take them out from there; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, from there will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

35. 9.4

    and though they go into captivity before their enemies, from there I will command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set my eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.

36. 9.5

    And the Lord God of hosts is he that touches the land, and it melts, and all that dwell therein mourn: and it rises up all of it like the River and sinks down like the River of Miżrayim.

37. 9.6

    It is he that builds his upper chambers in the heavens, and has founded his stairway in the earth; he that calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the face of the earth: the Lord is his name.

38. 9.7

    Are you not as much mine as the children of the Kushiyyim, O children of Yisra᾽el? says the Lord. Have not I brought up Yisra᾽el out of the land of Miżrayim? and the Pelishtim from Kaftor, and Aram from Qir?

39. 9.8

    Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Ya῾aqov, says the Lord.

40. 9.9

    For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Yisra᾽el among all nations, as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.

41. 9.10

    All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, The evil shall not overtake or meet us.

42. 9.11

    On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and repair its breaches; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:

43. 9.12

    that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the nations, who are called by my name, says the Lord who does this.

44. 9.13

    Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when the ploughman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.

45. 9.14

    And I will bring back the captivity of my people of Yisra᾽el, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink their wine; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

46. 9.15

    And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them, says the Lord thy God.
