    Manussā ujjhāyanti khiyyanti vipācenti—

    People complained and criticized her,

  19. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:1.14

“kathañhi nāma bhikkhunī kulaṁ maccharāyissatī”ti …pe…

“How can a nun keep a family to herself?” …

  20. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:1.15

“saccaṁ kira, bhikkhave, bhikkhunī kulaṁ maccharāyatī”ti?

“Yā pana bhikkhunī kulamaccharinī assa, pācittiyan”ti.

‘If a nun keeps a family to herself, she commits an offense entailing confession.’”

  27. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.1.1

    Yā panāti

    A:

  28. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.1.2

    yā yādisā …pe…

    whoever …

  29. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.1.3

    bhikkhunīti

    Nun:

  30. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.1.4

…pe… ayaṁ imasmiṁ atthe adhippetā bhikkhunīti.

… The nun who has been given the full ordination in unanimity by both Sanghas through a legal procedure consisting of one motion and three announcements that is irreversible and fit to stand—this sort of nun is meant in this case.

  31. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.1.5

    Kulaṁ nāma

    A family:

  32. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.1.6

cattāri kulāni— khattiyakulaṁ, brāhmaṇakulaṁ, vessakulaṁ, suddakulaṁ.

there are four kinds of families: the aristocratic family, the brahmin family, the merchant family, the worker family.

  33. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.1.7

    Maccharinī assāti

“kathaṁ bhikkhuniyo nāgaccheyyun”ti bhikkhunīnaṁ santike kulassa avaṇṇaṁ bhāsati, āpatti pācittiyassa.

if she thinks, “What can I do so that other nuns don’t come?” and she then speaks disparagingly about that family to the nuns, she commits an offense entailing confession.

Kulassa vā santike bhikkhunīnaṁ avaṇṇaṁ bhāsati, āpatti pācittiyassa.

  36. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.2.1

    Anāpatti—

    There is no offense:

  37. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.2.2

kulaṁ na maccharāyantī santaṁyeva ādīnavaṁ ācikkhati,

    if she is not keeping a family to herself, but describes the drawbacks as they are;

  38. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.2.3

    ummattikāya,

    if she is insane;

  39. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.2.4

    ādikammikāyāti.

if she is the first offender.

  40. pli-tv-bi-vb-pc55:2.2.5

    Pañcamasikkhāpadaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.

The fifth training rule is finished.
