80. Abasa — He frowned

80:1
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
AAabasa watawalla
He frowned and turned away
80:2
أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ
An jaahu alaAAma
Because the blind man came unto him
80:3
وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
Wama yudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka
What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace)
80:4
أَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ
Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu alththikra
Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him
80:5
أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
Amma mani istaghna
As for him who thinketh himself independent
80:6
فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
Faanta lahu tasadda
Unto him thou payest regard
80:7
وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
Wama AAalayka alla yazzakka
Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace)
80:8
وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسۡعَىٰ
Waamma man jaaka yasAAa
But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose
80:9
وَهُوَ يَخۡشَىٰ
Wahuwa yakhsha
And hath fear
80:10
فَأَنتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
Faanta AAanhu talahha
From him thou art distracted
80:11
كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةࣱ‏
Kalla innaha tathkiratun
Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment
80:12
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
Faman shaa thakarahu
So let whosoever will pay heed to it
80:13
فِي صُحُفࣲ مُّكَرَّمَةࣲ‏
Fee suhufin mukarramatin
On honoured leaves
80:14
مَّرۡفُوعَةࣲ مُّطَهَّرَةِۭ
MarfooAAatin mutahharatin
Exalted, purified
80:15
بِأَيۡدِي سَفَرَةࣲ‏
Biaydee safaratin
(Set down) by scribes
80:16
كِرَامِۭ بَرَرَةࣲ‏
Kiramin bararatin
Noble and righteous
80:17
قُتِلَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكۡفَرَهُۥ
Qutila alinsanu ma akfarahu
Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful
80:18
مِنۡ أَيِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
Min ayyi shayin khalaqahu
From what thing doth He create him
80:19
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarahu
From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him
80:20
ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
Thumma alssabeela yassarahu
Then maketh the way easy for him
80:21
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقۡبَرَهُۥ
Thumma amatahu faaqbarahu
Then causeth him to die, and burieth him
80:22
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
Thumma itha shaa ansharahu
Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life
80:23
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقۡضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
Kalla lamma yaqdi ma amarahu
Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him
80:24
فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
Falyanthuri alinsanu ila taAAamihi
Let man consider his food
80:25
أَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا ٱلۡمَآءَ صَبࣰّ ا
Anna sababna almaa sabban
How We pour water in showers
80:26
ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ شَقࣰّ ا
Thumma shaqaqna alarda shaqqan
Then split the earth in clefts
80:27
فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا حَبࣰّ ا
Faanbatna feeha habban
And cause the grain to grow therein
80:28
وَعِنَبࣰ ا وَقَضۡبࣰ ا
WaAAinaban waqadban
And grapes and green fodder
80:29
وَزَيۡتُونࣰ ا وَنَخۡلࣰ ا
Wazaytoonan wanakhlan
And olive-trees and palm-trees
80:30
وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبࣰ ا
Wahadaiqa ghulban
And garden-closes of thick foliage
80:31
وَفَٰكِهَةࣰ وَأَبࣰّ ا
Wafakihatan waabban
And fruits and grasses
80:32
مَّتَٰعࣰ ا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ
MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum
Provision for you and your cattle
80:33
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
Faitha jaati alssakhkhatu
But when the Shout cometh
80:34
يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِ
Yawma yafirru almaro min akheehi
On the day when a man fleeth from his brother
80:35
وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
Waommihi waabeehi
And his mother and his father
80:36
وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
Wasahibatihi wabaneehi
And his wife and his children
80:37
لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيࣲٕ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ شَأۡنࣱ يُغۡنِيهِ
Likulli imriin minhum yawmaithin shanun yughneehi
Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others)
80:38
وُجُوهࣱ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ مُّسۡفِرَةࣱ‏
Wujoohun yawmaithin musfiratun
On that day faces will be bright as dawn
80:39
ضَاحِكَةࣱ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةࣱ‏
Dahikatun mustabshiratun
Laughing, rejoicing at good news
80:40
وَوُجُوهࣱ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةࣱ‏
Wawujoohun yawmaithin AAalayha ghabaratun
And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them
80:41
تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
Tarhaquha qataratun
Veiled in darkness
80:42
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَفَرَةُ ٱلۡفَجَرَةُ
Olaika humu alkafaratu alfajaratu
Those are the disbelievers, the wicked
