73. Al-Muzzammil — The Enshrouded One

73:1
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُزَّمِّلُ
Ya ayyuha almuzzammilu
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment
73:2
قُمِ ٱلَّيۡلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلࣰ ا
Qumi allayla illa qaleelan
Keep vigil the night long, save a little
73:3
نِّصۡفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصۡ مِنۡهُ قَلِيلًا
Nisfahu awi onqus minhu qaleelan
A half thereof, or abate a little thereof
73:4
أَوۡ زِدۡ عَلَيۡهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ تَرۡتِيلًا
Aw zid AAalayhi warattili alqurana tarteelan
Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure
73:5
إِنَّا سَنُلۡقِي عَلَيۡكَ قَوۡلࣰ ا ثَقِيلًا
Inna sanulqee AAalayka qawlan thaqeelan
For we shall charge thee with a word of weight
73:6
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيۡلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطۡـࣰٔ ا وَأَقۡوَمُ قِيلًا
Inna nashiata allayli hiya ashaddu watan waaqwamu qeelan
Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain
73:7
إِنَّ لَكَ فِي ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبۡحࣰ ا طَوِيلࣰ ا
Inna laka fee alnnahari sabhan taweelan
Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business
73:8
وَٱذۡكُرِ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلۡ إِلَيۡهِ تَبۡتِيلࣰ ا
Waothkuri isma rabbika watabattal ilayhi tabteelan
So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion
73:9
رَّبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذۡهُ وَكِيلࣰ ا
Rabbu almashriqi waalmaghribi la ilaha illa huwa faittakhithhu wakeelan
Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender
73:10
وَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهۡجُرۡهُمۡ هَجۡرࣰ ا جَمِيلࣰ ا
Waisbir AAala ma yaqooloona waohjurhum hajran jameelan
And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking
73:11
وَذَرۡنِي وَٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ أُوْلِي ٱلنَّعۡمَةِ وَمَهِّلۡهُمۡ قَلِيلًا
Watharnee waalmukaththibeena olee alnnaAAmati wamahhilhum qaleelan
Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile
73:12
إِنَّ لَدَيۡنَآ أَنكَالࣰ ا وَجَحِيمࣰ ا
Inna ladayna ankalan wajaheeman
Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire
73:13
وَطَعَامࣰ ا ذَا غُصَّةࣲ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمࣰ ا
WataAAaman tha ghussatin waAAathaban aleeman
And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom
73:14
يَوۡمَ تَرۡجُفُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَثِيبࣰ ا مَّهِيلًا
Yawma tarjufu alardu waaljibalu wakanati aljibalu katheeban maheelan
On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand
73:15
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكُمۡ رَسُولࣰ ا شَٰهِدًا عَلَيۡكُمۡ كَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ رَسُولࣰ ا
Inna arsalna ilaykum rasoolan shahidan AAalaykum kama arsalna ila firAAawna rasoolan
Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger
73:16
فَعَصَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُ أَخۡذࣰ ا وَبِيلࣰ ا
FaAAasa firAAawnu alrrasoola faakhathnahu akhthan wabeelan
But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip
73:17
فَكَيۡفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرۡتُمۡ يَوۡمࣰ ا يَجۡعَلُ ٱلۡوِلۡدَٰنَ شِيبًا
Fakayfa tattaqoona in kafartum yawman yajAAalu alwildana sheeban
Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey
73:18
ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرُۢ بِهِۦۚ كَانَ وَعۡدُهُۥ مَفۡعُولًا
Alssamao munfatirun bihi kana waAAduhu mafAAoolan
The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled
73:19
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦ تَذۡكِرَةࣱۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا
Inna hathihi tathkiratun faman shaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi sabeelan
Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord
73:20
۞إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعۡلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدۡنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَيِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَنِصۡفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةࣱ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَۚ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحۡصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡكُمۡۖ فَٱقۡرَءُواْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِۚ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرۡضَىٰ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضۡرِبُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ يَبۡتَغُونَ مِن فَضۡلِ ٱللَّهِ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۖ فَٱقۡرَءُواْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنۡهُۚ وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُواْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقۡرِضُواْ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنࣰ اۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُواْ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنۡ خَيۡرࣲ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيۡرࣰ ا وَأَعۡظَمَ أَجۡرࣰ اۚ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ ٱللَّهَۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِيمُۢ
Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adna min thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wataifatun mina allatheena maAAaka waAllahu yuqaddiru allayla waalnnahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohu fataba AAalaykum faiqraoo ma tayassara mina alqurani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoona yadriboona fee alardi yabtaghoona min fadli Allahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahi faiqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata waaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wama tuqaddimoo lianfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahi huwa khayran waaAAthama ajran waistaghfiroo Allaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
Lo! thy Lord knoweth how thou keepest vigil sometimes nearly two-thirds of the night, or (sometimes) half or a third thereof, as do a party of those with thee. Allah measureth the night and the day. He knoweth that ye count it not, and turneth unto you in mercy. Recite, then, of the Qur'an that which is easy for you. He knoweth that there are sick folk among you, while others travel in the land in search of Allah's bounty, and others (still) are fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite of it that which is easy (for you), and establish worship and pay the poor-due, and (so) lend unto Allah a goodly loan. Whatsoever good ye send before you for your souls, ye will find it with Allah, better and greater in the recompense. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful
