53. An-Najm — The Star

53:1
وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
Waalnnajmi itha hawa
By the Star when it setteth
53:2
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
Ma dalla sahibukum wama ghawa
Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived
53:3
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰٓ
Wama yantiqu AAani alhawa
Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire
53:4
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡيࣱ يُوحَىٰ
In huwa illa wahyun yooha
It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired
53:5
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡقُوَىٰ
AAallamahu shadeedu alquwa
Which one of mighty powers hath taught him
53:6
ذُو مِرَّةࣲ فَٱسۡتَوَىٰ
Thoo mirratin faistawa
One vigorous; and he grew clear to view
53:7
وَهُوَ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ
Wahuwa bialofuqi alaAAla
When he was on the uppermost horizon
53:8
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
Thumma dana fatadalla
Then he drew nigh and came down
53:9
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَيۡنِ أَوۡ أَدۡنَىٰ
Fakana qaba qawsayni aw adna
Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer
53:10
فَأَوۡحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ مَآ أَوۡحَىٰ
Faawha ila AAabdihi ma awha
And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed
53:11
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
Ma kathaba alfuadu ma raa
The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw
53:12
أَفَتُمَٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
Afatumaroonahu AAala ma yara
Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth
53:13
وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ
Walaqad raahu nazlatan okhra
And verily he saw him yet another time
53:14
عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ
AAinda sidrati almuntaha
By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary
53:15
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰٓ
AAindaha jannatu almawa
Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode
53:16
إِذۡ يَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا يَغۡشَىٰ
Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghsha
When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree
53:17
مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
Ma zagha albasaru wama tagha
The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold
53:18
لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰٓ
Laqad raa min ayati rabbihi alkubra
Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord
53:19
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ
Afaraaytumu allata waalAAuzza
Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza
53:20
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰٓ
Wamanata alththalithata alokhra
And Manat, the third, the other
53:21
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ
Alakumu alththakaru walahu alontha
Are yours the males and His the females
53:22
تِلۡكَ إِذࣰ ا قِسۡمَةࣱ ضِيزَىٰٓ
Tilka ithan qismatun deeza
That indeed were an unfair division
53:23
إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّآ أَسۡمَآءࣱ سَمَّيۡتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَٰنٍۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ
In hiya illa asmaon sammaytumooha antum waabaokum ma anzala Allahu biha min sultanin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wama tahwa alanfusu walaqad jaahum min rabbihimu alhuda
They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them
53:24
أَمۡ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
Am lilinsani ma tamanna
Or shall man have what he coveteth
53:25
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ
Falillahi alakhiratu waaloola
But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former
53:26
۞وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكࣲ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغۡنِي شَفَٰعَتُهُمۡ شَيۡـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن يَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرۡضَىٰٓ
Wakam min malakin fee alssamawati la tughnee shafaAAatuhum shayan illa min baAAdi an yathana Allahu liman yashao wayarda
And how many angels are in the heavens whose intercession availeth naught save after Allah giveth leave to whom He chooseth and accepteth
53:27
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ تَسۡمِيَةَ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ
Inna allatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati layusammoona almalaikata tasmiyata alontha
Lo! it is those who disbelieve in the Hereafter who name the angels with the names of females
53:28
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغۡنِي مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَيۡـࣰٔ ا
Wama lahum bihi min AAilmin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wainna alththanna la yughnee mina alhaqqi shayan
And they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and lo! a guess can never take the place of the truth
53:29
فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ يُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا
FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAan thikrina walam yurid illa alhayata alddunya
Then withdraw (O Muhammad) from him who fleeth from Our remembrance and desireth but the life of the world
53:30
ذَٰلِكَ مَبۡلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ
Thalika mablaghuhum mina alAAilmi inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bimani ihtada
Such is their sum of knowledge. Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth, and He is Best Aware of him whom goeth right
53:31
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحۡسَنُواْ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى
Walillahi ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi liyajziya allatheena asaoo bima AAamiloo wayajziya allatheena ahsanoo bialhusna
And unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil with that which they have done, and reward those who do good with goodness
53:32
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِذۡ أَنتُمۡ أَجِنَّةࣱ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمۡۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓاْ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
Allatheena yajtaniboona kabaira alithmi waalfawahisha illa allamama inna rabbaka wasiAAu almaghfirati huwa aAAlamu bikum ith anshaakum mina alardi waith antum ajinnatun fee butooni ommahatikum fala tuzakkoo anfusakum huwa aAAlamu bimani ittaqa
Those who avoid enormities of sin and abominations, save the unwilled offences - (for them) lo! thy Lord is of vast mercy. He is Best Aware of you (from the time) when He created you from the earth, and when ye were hidden in the bellies of your mothers. Therefor ascribe not purity unto yourselves. He is Best Aware of him who wardeth off (evil)
53:33
أَفَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ
Afaraayta allathee tawalla
Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away
53:34
وَأَعۡطَىٰ قَلِيلࣰ ا وَأَكۡدَىٰٓ
WaaAAta qaleelan waakda
And gave a little, then was grudging
53:35
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
aAAindahu AAilmu alghaybi fahuwa yara
Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth
53:36
أَمۡ لَمۡ يُنَبَّأۡ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
Am lam yunabba bima fee suhufi moosa
Or hath he not had news of what is in the books of Moses
53:37
وَإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِي وَفَّىٰٓ
Waibraheema allathee waffa
And Abraham who paid his debt
53:38
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ
Alla taziru waziratun wizra okhra
That no laden one shall bear another's load
53:39
وَأَن لَّيۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
Waan laysa lilinsani illa ma saAAa
And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort
53:40
وَأَنَّ سَعۡيَهُۥ سَوۡفَ يُرَىٰ
Waanna saAAyahu sawfa yura
And that his effort will be seen
53:41
ثُمَّ يُجۡزَىٰهُ ٱلۡجَزَآءَ ٱلۡأَوۡفَىٰ
Thumma yujzahu aljazaa alawfa
And afterward he will be repaid for it with fullest payment
53:42
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ
Waanna ila rabbika almuntaha
And that thy Lord, He is the goal
53:43
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ
Waannahu huwa adhaka waabka
And that He it is who maketh laugh, and maketh weep
53:44
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحۡيَا
Waannahu huwa amata waahya
And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life
53:45
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ
Waannahu khalaqa alzzawjayni alththakara waalontha
And that He createth the two spouses, the male and the female
53:46
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ
Min nutfatin itha tumna
From a drop (of seed) when it is poured forth
53:47
وَأَنَّ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ
Waanna AAalayhi alnnashata alokhra
And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth
53:48
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ
Waannahu huwa aghna waaqna
And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth
53:49
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ
Waannahu huwa rabbu alshshiAAra
And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius
53:50
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ
Waannahu ahlaka AAadan aloola
And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad
53:51
وَثَمُودَاْ فَمَآ أَبۡقَىٰ
Wathamooda fama abqa
And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not
53:52
وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ
Waqawma noohin min qablu innahum kanoo hum athlama waatgha
And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious
53:53
وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ
Waalmutafikata ahwa
And Al-Mu'tafikah He destroyed
53:54
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
Faghashshaha ma ghashsha
So that there covered them that which did cover
53:55
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
Fabiayyi alai rabbika tatamara
Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute
53:56
هَٰذَا نَذِيرࣱ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ
Hatha natheerun mina alnnuthuri aloola
This is a warner of the warners of old
53:57
أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡأٓزِفَةُ
Azifati alazifatu
The threatened Hour is nigh
53:58
لَيۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
Laysa laha min dooni Allahi kashifatun
None beside Allah can disclose it
53:59
أَفَمِنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ
Afamin hatha alhadeethi taAAjaboona
Marvel ye then at this statement
53:60
وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ
Watadhakoona wala tabkoona
And laugh and not weep
53:61
وَأَنتُمۡ سَٰمِدُونَ
Waantum samidoona
While ye amuse yourselves
53:62
فَٱسۡجُدُواْۤ لِلَّهِۤ وَٱعۡبُدُواْ۩
Faosjudoo lillahi waoAAbudoo
Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him
